Come kick off the start of the
2011 Great TB Race with a New Year's Day Barbecue Event
The Great TB Race
is a goal oriented race, with TB's earning points every time they
complete something on a list of goals. All contestants start from a
common point and in 2011, the race will begin here in Phoenix.
However, holding an event just to release travel bugs would turn
the event into something much like a Flash Mob. Since we are
starting the race on New Year's Day, why not hold a New Year's Day
party?
For anyone interested in race details, including how to enter,
please visit The Great TB
Race Website for details. Just click on the 2011 Race Details
tab at the top of the site.
A brief overview: The race is a race for points, not mileage.
Points are earned every time your TB meets a goal, ranging from
crossing state borders to taking pictures to attending events. In
2009 and again this year, we had enough prizes (over $200 worth)
that the top five contestants all won at least $20 in prizes. Entry
requires that you provide a freshly activated TB and a $2 entry
fee. The entry fee helps cover behind the scenes costs such as
purchasing and shipping prizes.
In the past, we've started the event in Kansas City and then
Dallas. CachingCop won the right to host the kick-off event for the
2011 race in an online vote back in October.
Now, normally, I'd say that the registration deadline is
December 25th. However, those of you in the Phoenix area who are
planning on attending the event...I'll make an exception. Everyone
else has to ship their items to Phoenix, hence the entry deadline.
Obviously, you could just as easily bring your entry to the event.
As such, I will allow you to enter right on up to December 31st.
But, you need to go through the registration form on the race
website (the one at the 2011 Race Details tab) as this helps update
our records. Then you will need to let CachingCop know that you are
bringing your entry with you to the event. He has official race
tags to attach. DO NOT DROP YOUR TB INTO THE EVENT! I will be
taking care of that myself. Just leave it in your possession and on
New Year's Eve, you'll see me begin to grab them all in preparation
for the start of the race.
If you have questions about the race, you can ask me. CachingCop
participated in last year's race so you're welcome to talk to him
about his experience. If you have questions about this event, then
you'll need to talk to him. I am not involved with the event other
than being the Race Organizer.
Hope this helps answer some questions. Wish I could be there,
but I'll be with family in Dallas. It was SOOOO hard not to tell
myself "Well, I'll just drive over to Phoenix." TripCyclone
