Most geocachers have already searched
for a cache with a GPS navigator. However, this device also allows
us to search for other things than caches, for example interesting
latitude or longitude values. The
Degree Confluence Project
concentrates on seeking and documenting points with both integer
latitude and longitude (confluence points) by means of a GPS
navigator. In the Czech Republic, 10 such points have been
documented.
The territory of the capital Prague
does not contain any confluence points, but it contains a part of
the 50-degree northern latitude line, which has a length of about
25 759 kilometres (the length of the Equator multiplied by
cos 50°). By means of your GPS navigator, you can find this
latitude line for example in the Modřany district. And what
about searching simultaneously for the 50-degree latitude line and
a cache that is located just on it?
This is the second cache that I
placed on the 50-degree latitude line. Furthermore, the longitude
of the cache has an integer number of minutes. To access the cache,
you can use the bus stops “Pavelkova” and the way up
the small hill (see Additional Waypoints). It is interesting that
the 50-degree latitude line even passes through all these waypoints
(see their coordinates).
The cache is a flat plastic box. It
is not very spacious, but a few small pieces of stuff might fit in
it. Please, make sure that you are equipped with a writing tool
(pencil or pen) for logging.
When I was placing the cache on its
site, there was a horse excrement nearby, so try to avoid stepping
into it.
