This is one of a series of 5 Dinosaur caches: Stegosaurus, Tyrannosaurus Rex, Brontosaurus, Triceratops, and Dinosaur Trail Bonus Cache.
The four caches with Dinosaur names are regular caches, but they
each contain clues that will lead to the Dinosaur Trail Bonus
Cache.
Each of the four regular caches contain a laminated information
card and picture of its namesake dinosaur. There is also the letter
A, B, C or D on the inside cover of the cache. Both the information
card and the letter will be used to solve the coordinates for the
bonus cache. It is not necessary to remove the information cards
from the caches.
In order to find the coordinates to the bonus cache, you must
correctly answer four dinosaur trivia questions. The answers to the
questions are located on the laminated information cards inside
each of the four regular caches. The answers to the questions can
also be googled, but it is necessary to visit the regular caches to
get the correct order of the answers.
1. This dinosaur lived during the late Jurassic Period about
157-146 million years ago. Stegosaurus=2, Triceratops=5,
Brontosaurus=4, Tyrannosaurus=3
2. When threatened, this dinosaur charged into its enemy like
the modern day rhinoceros. Stegosaurus=4, Triceratops=5,
Brontosaurus=6, Tyrannosaurus=7
3. Fossils of this dinosaur were first found in 1902 by Barnum
Brown. Stegosaurus=0, Triceratops=1, Brontosaurus=8,
Tyrannosaurus=9
4. This dinosaur was the size of a bus but its brain was only
the size of a walnut. Stegosaurus=6, Triceratops=3, Brontosaurus=4,
Tyrannosaurus=5
Each dinosaur will be used as a trivia answer only once. Inside
each dinosaur cache is a letter A, B, C or D. The numbers next to
the correct answer for each question will be substituted into the
coordinates N 41° 11.AB8 W 074° 00.CD9, based on which dinosaur is
represented by each letter. For example, if the correct answer to
question 1 is Stegosaurus=2, and the Stegosaurus cache has the
letter B inside, replace the letter B in the coordinates with the
number 2.
All the caches are located just off the turquoise blazed Long
Path. For most of the length you will be walking on, the trail is
wide and graveled, with only small changes in elevation, though it
does become rockier with more elevation changes closer to the
final. The trail follows the ridge line and there are many view
points along the trail. The total hiking distance to find all
caches including the bonus cache is about 2.5 miles.
