Voulismeno Aloni
(Sunken threshing-floor)
 

In this area there is a big circular subsidence known by the name "Voulismeno Aloni". Geological research that was conducted in the area led to the conclusion that under the site there was a cave and with several earth quakes subsidence of the ground was caused and as a result the specific geological phenomenon took place. Also, scientists refer to a "doline" which is a cavity of round or elliptical shape created by the sinking of the limestone rock of the area. So the "Voulismeno Aloni" is one the most impressive cavities (dolines) of Europe and Greece and unique for its dimensions and imposition throughout Crete.

Of course, according to tradition there was a regular threshing-floor in that area. However its owner on the day of the celebration of Saint Elias went to this threshing-floor to thresh, a fact that resulted in the punishment by the Saint, who sunk the threshing-floor, drifting people and animals into the depths oft the earth.

(Der versunkene Dreschplatz)
 

Hier befindet sich eine kreisrunde Absenkung mit dem Namen "Voulismeno Aloni". Geologische Untersuchungen haben ergeben, dass sich hier eine Höhle befunden hat, die durch verschiedene Erdbeben in sich zusammen gefallen ist und dieses geologische Phänomen hervorgebracht hat. Forscher verweisen in diesem Zusammenhang auch auf "Dolinen" als mögliche Auslöser für die runde oder elliptische Form. Entstanden durch Absenkung und / oder Auswaschung von Kalkstein in diesem Gebiet. Damit ist "Voulismeno Aloni" der wohl imposanteste Hohlraum (Doline) in Europa und Griechenland und einzigartig in seinen Dimensionen auf Kreta.

Natürlich gab es hier früher einen traditionellen Dreschplatz. Der damalige Besitzer ging zum Sankt Elias-Fest zu seinem Dresch-Platz, um zu arbeiten. Und die Geschichte sagt, dass der Boden nachgab und Menschen wie Tiere in die Tiefen der Erde zog.

Um diesen Earth-Cache zu loggen, beantwortet bitte diese beiden Fragen:

1) Wie groß ist der Durchmesser des Kraters in Metern?
2) Wie tief ist der Krater (von bis) in Metern?

Ein Foto, das Euch am Kratzer zeigt, wäre nett, ist aber keine Logbedingung!
