This surprisingly large and magnificent memorial in Taichung is a must see. 228 refers to the 228 massacre which was an anti-government uprising in Taiwan that began on February 28, 1947 and was violently suppressed by the Kuomintang (KMT) government. Estimates of the number of deaths vary from 10,000 to 30,000 or more. The Incident marked the beginning of the Kuomintang's "White Terror" period in Taiwan, in which thousands more Taiwanese vanished, died, or were imprisoned. The number "228" refers to the day the massacre began: February 28, or 02-28.
The cache is a 20cm thin grey tube, exactly the same as its twin found at Taichung Feng-Le Park. It contains a small log book, a pen and even a TB at the time of placement that barely fits inside:). Find it on the memorial hiding behind something.
