Moore's Cemetery Mystery Cache

This cache has been archived.

JL_HSTRE: Stopped by today to replace the log. Found the hiding spot has deteriorated over the years and did not see a good replacement hiding spot nearby. Decided to remove container and archive the listing. Thanks to all the finders during the several years it was active.

Geocache Description:

THE CACHE IS NOT AT THE POSTED COORDINATES!

This is an offset cache. The posted coordinates will take you to a plaque. The cache is now located approximately 65 feet away from the plaque on a bearing of 125 degrees. It is NOT within the fenced cemetery.

There is room to park along Seville Street. Watch for traffic, especially on weekdays between 3PM and 6PM.

So many cars drive by this spot every day, but few know they are passing a largely forgotten part of Martin County history. Moore's Cemetery is located between Seville Street and Monterey Road in Stuart, with several access gates on Seville. The cemetery was Stuart's original black cemetery. Information on the cemetery is sketchy and some of the burials are unfortunately lost to time and bad record keeping. We may never know how many unmarked graves were lost under Monterey Road and Seville Street, the concrete of their adjacent sidewalks, or even the nearby 7-Eleven and the gated community behind the wall in front of you as you read the plaque.
