Heeeee Shoots And Scores!! Mystery Cache

This cache has been archived.

jeffshly: Checked on this one and it's missing again. I'm not quite sure why, but I have a hunch the landscapers are taking these things. This was the fourth container to go missing, so it's time for this one to go. I hope to recreate this one in another location at a later time. Thanks to everyone who solved and found this one!

Geocache Description:

The posted coordinates put you in the middle of Canonsburg Lake, an area where many young hockey players take their shovels and skates in the winter and learn how to skate, stickhandle, and shoot with dreams of, someday, wearing a Pittsburgh Penguins jersey. Everytime the NHL plays an outdoor game like the Winter Classic, which the Penguins have played in twice, they speak of hockey going back to its outdoor roots. This is one place where those roots begin to grow.

This puzzle cache is Team Jeffshly's tribute to our favorite pro sports franchise, the five-time Stanley Cup Champion Pittsburgh Penguins.

This cache is a puzzle cache that will test your knowledge of Pittsburgh Penguins history. Answer the questions below to solve for the actual coordinates for the final container, which is a micro cache. This container contains only a log sheet and has no room for trade items. There is no need to remove this container from its hiding place.

For those of you who don't know Penguins history off the top of your head, we've listed a related web page above that should get you pointed in the right direction. Now that all that stuff is out of the way, onto the puzzle.

Question #4
The Penguins' 1969-70 Rookie of the Year, Michel Briere, was killed in an automobile accident on May 15, 1970. His jersey number 21 was never issued again and was hung in the rafters of the Mellon Arena and the Consol Energy Center as one of only two retired numbers, the other being Mario Lemieux's number 66. How many years passed from the time of Briere's death to the day his number was officially retired by the team?
- Less than one year (D=2)
- Over 30 years (D=5)
- Five and a half years (D=8)

Question #6

- Paul Coffey, John Cullen, and Randy Hillier (F=9)

Question #7
Take your answer from Question #6 and add their jersey numbers from that year together.

What team filed an unsuccessful complaint with the NHL to stop this change?
- Quebec Nordiques (H=0)
- Philadelphia Flyers (H=6)
