Cache située sur le site d'une très belle chapelle, à découvrir absolument.
il s'y déroule des concerts en plein air l'été.
Facile d'accès, parking à proximité.

Située au sommet d'un petit plateau, dans la plaine que domine Châteauneuf, cette chapelle est le vestige d'une vaste basilique, construite au XIème siècle sur le site d'une ancienne église du Vème siècle. La chapelle a été restaurée et classée Monument Historique en 1986.

La présence d'une source intermittente fournit sans doute la raison de l'élection de ce site. Les sources ont toujours eu une grande importance dans les cultes populaires, surtout celles liées aux cycles symboliques des saisons, celles qui se distinguent des sources ordinaires par quelque particularité insolite.

Occupée dès l'âge du Bronze, ce site a rapidement servi de lieu de rassemblement à l'époque romaine, puis a vu l'édification d'une église puis d'une basilique. Cette dernière aurait eu une taille voisine à celle de l'abbaye de Lérins.

Situated atop a small plateau that dominates the plain Châteauneuf, this chapel is the remnant of a vast basilica, built in the eleventh century on the site of an ancient church in the fifth century. The chapel has been restored and classified a historical monument in 1986.

The presence of an intermittent source provides probably the reason for the election of this site. The sources have always been important in the popular cults, especially those related to symbolic cycles of the seasons, those who are different from ordinary sources by some unusual feature.

Occupied from the Bronze Age, the site was quickly served as a gathering place in Roman times, then saw the building of a church and a basilica. The latter would have a size close to that of the Abbey of Lerins.
