New Hampshire's first Scuba Diving cache (as far as I can tell!)
This cache was placed by my husband who dives nearly every weekend throughout the year! Here is a link to a video of him and my son video
WARNING - due to the nature of scuba diving, cachers attempting to find this cache do so at their own risk. Diving with a buddy and open water certification is recommended.
Looking over the huge vista of Lake Winnepesauke is pretty awe inspiring, but there is a whole world underneath the lake that few people see!
There is a small park called McKinney park on the south eastern shore of the lake that has natural rocky steps leading down to the shore of the lake and here there is a site that is very popular with divers!
There is a cache very close to this spot (Rocky view - GCV0CX), which will give you the coordinates for access to the lake.
The cache is approximately 400 feet from the shore at a bearing of 260 degrees (magnetic north) from the access point.
About 35 feet beneath the surface at this point is a small boat named 'bumblebee'. The cache is here!
The coordinates were originally calculated by triangulating from two points on the shore to a dive flag tethered above the cache (see photo below). Note on the day of placement, there were strong winds to the SE.
Current coordinates were updated from standing above the cache on the ice :-)
The difficulty of the cache reflects the approximate nature of the coordinates and the visibility level at times although once at the cache site, it is an easy find.
There is a navigation course underwater - if you reach this 2 bottle marker, the cache is around 50 feet further.
The container is not watertight but the log is waterproof and can be written on underwater with the enclosed pencil (please leave this in the cache)
When returning the log, please put some air back into the container to enable it to float!
