Geocache Description:

This is a typical urban hide that REALLY requires stealth to protect it from discovery and removal by Muggles. This cache is my first and still my favorite hide. It is large enough to hold normal trackables. It will be a fun and rewarding smiley while you are in downtown Edmonds or waiting for the ferry.

To reduce your time searching, please observe these guidelines:

1. The coords are perfect. If you don't find it quickly at GZ, look better, not elsewhere.
2. It is not inside the trash area. Don't go in there and don't touch the rat traps there.
3. There is no need to dig deep into the shrubbery.
4. It is not on the ground.
5. One of those is not like the others.

There is free and convenient parking right next to the hide. Handicaching Rating: H11122.

READ BELOW ONLY IF YOU ARE INTERESTED IN THE ENTIRE CACHE HISTORY. YOU DON'T NEED IT TO FIND THE CACHE.

This cache has evolved over its ten-year lifespan. It was our first geocache hide, called "Taproom Open," placed next to a brew-on-premises where we have been making our own beer since 1997. It was the final stage of an offset multi-cache [GC2C6M0]. When the waypoint was taken, we archived the multi and published it as a new traditional cache. We found a container that was the perfect shape for this location. It was just too large to be so well hidden. Many times I enjoyed watching people from inside the brewery, while they searched where the instructions said not to search.

Then we changed to the present name because the FDIC took over the bank that owned the building, then made Dennis move the brewery that had been here for 15 years. So we honor the FDIC with this cache name.

The brewery moved a few blocks West. See "S. Snohomish Breweries" [GC2GRHH] to find the relocated brewery!

In 2014 someone began attacking this cache. The camo was destroyed in a way that required professional equipment to retrieve it. But the container was not damaged. The fourth construction of the camo was quickly stolen, including loss of the container. We gave up on the cool camo and placed a cheap temporary replacement, but that was also quickly stolen. Then we placed a different, still temporary, replacement that lasted 7 months. Beginning March, 2015, the fifth construction of the camo was placed with a new perfect container, fully restoring the original hide.
