Since a long time it was my intention to walk this levada. Nearly unknown and less described in tourist guides, that levada lead a dreamy existence in the dense laurel jungle in the mountains. Closed in the beginning of the year, it's meanwhile open and awaits the visitors to show them the beauty of Madeira. That's why Sabine, montego51 and I took the opportunity. Oddly enough it was the 10th of October, so I couldn't resist putting the date into the name.

To reach the northern or southern parking area you drive the ER 209 between Ribeira da Janela (north coast) and the plan alto Paúl da Serra. It's a 5.4 km walk (the double if you have to return to the starting point) with only one critical spot. If you enter the levada from the north entrance you reach the cache before this spot and the difficulty might be a 3. From the northern parking area you can continue the trail in direction to Ribeira da Janela which gives you fantastic views to the north coast.

In the dense forest the GPS signal sometimes is week. That's why you must not forget the spoiler picture. And please do me a favour: this trail was really free of tissues/Klenex/Tempotücher. Don't turn it into a toilet trail like the levada 25 Fontes.

You can combine this cache with some others in the near like "Bosque Mágico - Magic Forest", "Janela" and all the others around the Rabaçal area.

Já há muito tempo era a minha intenção andar nesta levada. Por pouco conhecida e menos descrita em guias turisticos, esta pequena levada levava uma vida escondida e sonhada no bosque laurisilva da ilha. Fechada no início do ano ela está entretanto aberta e esperando os visitantes para lhes mostrar a beleza da Madeira. Foi a razão porque a Sabine, o Montego51 e eu aproveitamos a oportunidade. Curiosamente foi no 10 outubro 2010, assim, não pude resistir a colocar a data no nome da cache.

Para chegar ao estacionamento vindo de norte ou de sul tens que ir à ER209 entre Ribeira da Janela (costa norte) e o planalto Paúl da Serra. É um passeio de 5,4 km ( o dobro se voltar ao ponto de origem, quando não há dois carros) com só um ponto um pouco perigoso. Se começar na entrada norte da levada encontrará a cache antes deste ponto crítico e a dificuldade do passeio será só um 3. Do estacionamento norte pode-se continuar no trilho em direcção à Ribeira da Janela com magníficas vistas da costa norte.

Na floresta densa o sinal GPS é muitas das vezes fracas. Por isso não deves esquecer a fotografia spoiler. E faz-me um favor: o trilho foi limpo de lenços de papel. Por favor não o transformes num passeio sanitário como a Levada das 25 fontes.
