Central Park Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

Lindinis: This cache has been unavailable for a considerable period and as the owner has not responded to logs I am archiving it.

Guidelines: "As the cache owner, you are also responsible for physically checking your cache periodically, and especially when someone reports a problem with the cache (missing, damaged, wet, etc.). You may temporarily disable your cache to let others know not to hunt for it until you have a chance to fix the problem. This feature is to allow you a reasonable time - normally a few weeks - in which to arrange a visit to your cache. In the event that a cache is not being properly maintained, or has been temporarily disabled for an extended period of time, we may archive the listing." You can see the relivant guidelines here...

Geocache Description:

A magnetic nano-cache a few paces off tarmac paths onto a well trodden flat earth/grass path - can get a little muddy in wet weather. Wheelchair accessible including retreiving the cache from it's hiding place.

The cache is hidden on an old item that once took pride of place in the location of 'Swindon Railway Village - GC1QCBM' (well worth a visit), and after a recent refurbishment was the subject of debate over whether it should be returned to it's original home or it's current location, where it has lived for at least the last 40 years (I'd be interested to hear from anyone who knows a more accurate date). As far as I know it has never functioned as it was designed, even when in it's original location it has only ever been a flower bed, and more recently just an empty ornament.

The cache is in the line of sight from one of Swindon's more colourful statues, The Blondinis - a renovated 17 foot high statue featuring two acrobats called The Blondinis, unveiled in its new location in Aug 2009; the first time the statue has been seen by members of the public since it was removed from the Wharf Green area of Swindon in 2005 in order to regenerate the area.

Nationally renowned sculptor the late John Clinch was commissioned to create the statue more than 20 years ago by the then Thamesdown Council using the last pieces of metal cast from the former railway works. He also created another famous Swindon statue - 1950s film star Diana Dors at the Shaw Ridge Leisure Complex.

The Blondinis performed at circuses in Swindon in the 1920s, and the statue was designed to symbolise the gathering of people for fairs, festivals and trade. Local artist Tim Carroll has now restored the artwork for the new site.

Muggle activity can vary from a few dog walkers to very busy with lots of sporty muggles and mini-muggles playing games depending on time of day, weather etc; discretion needed when retrieving.

Ample parking can be found in any of the surrounding streets.

No room for anything except the log, please bring your own pen/pencil.

Please replace the cache in exactly the same position, so that others can follow the hints.
