Geocache Description:

This is in the Derwent Valley Mills World Heritage Site. Park at Whatstandwell train station. Go over the railway bridge and onto the canal side. Walk towards Cromford.

This cache was hidden by Crich Carr Primary School Year 4 and 5 pupils. We have learnt about geocaching, how to use a GPS, how to locate a cache and have been learning about World Heritage Sites.

One part of the World Heritage Site is the mills at Belper, Cromford and Derby. Other World Heritage Sites are Egypt's Pyramids at Giza, Stonehenge and the Virunga National Park in the Democratic Republic of Congo. These places are irreplaceable and special.

Some of the important, famous people from the Derwent Valley Mills World Heritage site are - Sir Richard Arkwright who made the mills at Cromford, Jedidiah Strutt who built the mills at Belper and John Lombe who made the Silk Mill at Derby. All of the mills in the area were powered by water.

Sited with kind permission of Derbyshire County Council.
