Number 1390 in the Church Micro series is All Saints' Church; one of three churches comprising the parish of Odd Rode.
The ecclesiastical parish of Odd Rode was created in 1864 when the Wilbraham Family of Rode Hall completed All Saints' Church in Scholar Green. The parish became a civil administrative area shortly after; but before this the area formed part of the ancient and large parish of Newbold Astbury.
The Church contains some fine architectural and decorative elements, which make it of considerable historical interest. It is a building in the early English style, from the designs of the late Sir George Gilbert Scott who it seems spent valuable time on the design of this small rural church whilst at the same time being heavily involved in the design & erection of the Albert Memorial. Inside there is a stunning carved marble reredos with a representation of "The Last Supper" that was installed in 1887. The organ was given by the parishioners as a memorial to the late Randle Wilbraham esq. who had paid for the building. Originally, it was hand blown and for many years its blower was a blind man. The first real organist was William Brian who was appointed in 1896. Mr Brian later took the name of "Havergal" and as Havergal Brian went to London and became a notable composer.
No longer a traditional micro as something keeps eating them! You're now looking for a smaller camouflaged one - just make sure the coast is clear before you dive in.
