Hidden Next Door To Alice (Bay of Plenty) Traditional Geocache

This cache has been archived.

Maddie_NZ: Archiving this cache to open the area up for new hides. It was my first placement so I have a soft spot for it but ultimately I need to face the fact that the area that it was hidden in presents a special set of challenges.

Geocache Description:

Mosh in Wonderland

Cache replaced and relocated 7 March 2013 after the original cache was muggled.
My eager Geocaching companion is my Labrador, Mosh. This cache is situated in an area we pass by regularly.

Mosh wants to have something interesting to find and smell when in the area and would love to hear of other cache hunters passing by his "patch".

The walk is alongside water and therefore you may need to keep an eye on children.

Alice Johnson Reserve:

Alice Johnson Reserve was informally gifted to the Tauranga County Council for “passive” recreation purposes in 1982. It is part of a larger reserve named the Gordon Spratt Reserve that was purchased by the Tauranga County Council (later the Tauranga District Council) with the aim to provide a centrally located, multi-functional outdoor recreation and sporting area to cater for the intermediate and long term needs in the Papamoa locality.

The Recreation Reserve is a small part of an original 1,200 acre farm, taken up in the 1890s, half of which was sold off quite early.

Wairakei Drainage Reserve:

The Wairakei Reserve is a stormwater catchment area that has been developed with extensive plantings of trees, shrubs, hebes and flaxes. A path has been formed that crosses over small streams in many places. This same path is used by cyclists as a safe route between busy roads.

This reserve extends from Parton Road through to Domain Road and is approximately two kilometres in length.

If you carry through to the sportsfield you will see the new Papamoa College. There is a path that leads around the sportfields and links to Doncaster Drive

Directions:

You may like to start by parking on Longview Drive by the bridge between Carrington and Conrith. It's a very easy 5 minute 500 or so metre walk to the cache from here. There is also a closer parking option at the end of Dalton Drive cul-de-sac if you are not feeling as energetic, however the track is flat.

NEW parking now available next to the new College on Donaster Drive and follow the path around the sportsfield.
