Geocache Description:

THE CACHE IS NOT AT THE POSTED COORDINATES,
but you can park here or nearby, it will serve as a good trailhead.

The 1.7 km (a bit over a mile) hike will take you to a beautiful look out point above the city from where you can observe the chapel of Havihegy, the Tettye park with the 16th century ruins, the historical city center and the west part of the Mecsek mountain.

A geoláda a geocaching.hu oldalon GCMYST név alatt található. Ne feledkezz meg a jelszóról!
This cache is also available on geocaching.hu under the name GCMYST.

Geocoins, small travel bugs are welcome.

What are the real coordinates? See them below:

N 46° 0_._ _ _'
E 18° 1_._ _ _'

Wifi verification is required before both reels can be pulled out. This new procedure has even changed the mood in the office. The funiness of the password makes all of our team members laugh. Ruth reentered the group after seeing our cheerfulness. It's a pity that her mouth reeks and she is overweight, I'd prefer working with a more attractive woman.

How to get there?
Go upwards from the parking! If you choose the trail mark with a yellow stripe there is a 1,000 m hike ahead of you. First you may get concerned that you are walking away from the cache, but after about 400 m you will gradually turn in the right direction.
If you choose the wide trail blocked by the red barrier (but, I suggest this route for your way back) the distance is only 700 m. If you take this trail, turn right after about a 100 m, at the shabby old house, towards the old quarry. There is a dog at the house, it may bark, but cannot come out, no need to be afraid of it. The old quarry is officially a dog park, the inhabitants of the house, including the dog, are used to people going by.
Though tempting, I do not recommend getting to the cache by climbing on the steep walls of the quarry. It will be faster and safer walking along the impressive cliff and taking the trail at the other end leading to the look out area and the cache. Take time to enjoy the view!
On your way back take the other trail than what you took on your way here. It will be a different experience.

The history of the Tettye
During the Roman times, this area was outside of Sopianae, the flourishing Roman city. The Romans didn't channel the creek rushing by here to the city, but built mills on it.
Archeological diggings prove that during the Migration Period Avars, Slavs, and Hungarians lived here for shorter or longer periods.
By the 11th century a small settlement got established here that was not part of the city.
The church of all Saints (Mindenszentek temploma) was built in the 12th century. During the medial times regular mills, gunpowder mills, papermills, tanners lined the brook.
At the beginning of the 16th century, bishop Szatmáry built a renaissance summer residence on the hillside, using lime stone mined here. During the Ottoman occupation the palace served as a dervish monastery.
In the 17th century Bosnians settled here and were dominating the area until the early 20th century. By the end of the 19th century the 4.5 acres park of Tettye above the narrow streets lined by little old houses became a popular weekend destination among city dwellers. In those days carriages were transporting the happy visitors, now one can take bus #33 from the railway station and can get here easily.
