Geocache Description:

Cache IS at the posted coordinates. Difficulty is for challenge. Placement is 2 difficulty

Hi, my name is Hiking Seal and I'm a challenge addict.

As I logged my 100th challenge last night, it occurred to me there should be a challenge for challenges. For all my fellow challenge addicts, here you go.

I have derived a lot of pleasure from completing challenges. Some of my favorites to date are:

If you are looking for challenges to complete, there are several bookmark lists at the right to help you. Jacob's list focuses on Utah's challenges. There are all the challenges listed by state. Should you ever find yourself in Sacramento, CA, there is a delightful bike trail full of challenges which is referred to as Challenge Alley. Visit the owner's, I Challenge You's, profile page for a list of those challenges. When you post any kind of log for this cache, please mention your favorite challenges so the rest of us can check them out.

Logging Requirements:

  • YOU MUST FIND AND COMPLETE 100 UNIQUE CHALLENGE CACHES
    • This challenge does not count as one of the 100 necessary for completing the challenge.

  • UNIQUE means you cannot use two challenges that could be completed with same set of caches. In other words only one of the above Jasmer Challenges could count toward this challenge, only one Challenge of the Century for each cache type would count.
    • Different date restrictions do not make a challenge unique.  For example, A Fizzy (Well-Rounded Cacher) Challenge that requires all caches to be found since 1/1/2003 would not be unique from a Fizzy (Well-Rounded Cacher) Challenge that required caches to be found after 1/1/2005
    • A unique problem has arisen for Utah cachers. Many have completed the Challenge of the Century: 100 owned by 1 (GC2FE81) using AD0OR/JAC0B. This would duplicate the caches used to complete Challenge of the Century: AD0OR caches (GC19QX2). In order to maintain the spirit of this challenge, if you wish to claim both of these challenges toward this one and you used AD0OR/JAC0B for the first, you must have 200 AD0OR/JAC0B caches, 100 for each challenge.
    • If you have a question about whether a cache is unique, please check the bookmark lists at the right of those who have completed this challenge. If you still have a question, email me. I'm happy to review a list for you, but please make the effort to remove all the obvious duplicates (e.g. Challenge of the Century's for different cache types from different states or even both from Utah).
    • Remember the goal is to get more people doing more challenges that cause you to go outside your usual caching behavior. Put your effort into doing another challenge instead of nitpicking :-)

  • CHALLENGE means a cache that requires you to find a group from the many caches out there that meet certain requirements.
    • By Groundspeak definition a challenge may not require that a particular set of caches must be found. For example, the final of Wasatch Workout (GC126XP) is not a challenge. It is a puzzle.
    • Merely having the word "challenge" as part of the cache name does not make it a challenge.
    • There are many challenging caches out there that are not challenges, so they don't count. There are also some challenges that aren't very challenging, but they do count. I attempted to account for this in the ratings on this challenge as explained below.

  • Hides do not count as finds
  • No date or location restrictions on challenges
  • To demonstrate you have met that criteria, please list in your log ONLY the GC#, Name, and Date Found of your qualifying caches. Please note that because of the unique requirement there is no checker for this challenge. Do not use a checker for another challenge that simply counts the number of finds in the Project GC challenge list. You need to type the list described above in your log.
    • Logging update as from 12/15/15: As with many things in geocaching, someone abuses the system and the rules have to change. Because it takes a lot of effort to put together the qualifiers for this challenge, many cachers have chosen to add on to their qualifying bookmark list essentially turning it into their completed challenges list. How this appears to people looking at this challenge for the first time is that people simply submit hundreds of found challenges as qualifying and leave it up to me to sort through them. Your log/list needs to contain 100 unique challenges. If you are worried about some being duplicates, OK a couple extra is fine, but no more that 105. To the folks who accept the spirit of this challenge, it shouldn't be an issue. This will only create a logging issue for those more interested in quantity than quality. If you are not willing to do the work of culling your finds for 100 unique challenges, please put this on your ignore list. You are getting five difficulty stars for your efforts.

As of the placement date for this cache, I have completed 105 challenges, 82 are unique. I have signed or completed the requirements, but not both, for another 41. So it's tough but it's doable.

Ratings
As for the ratings on this challenge, the difficulty is easy. Completing this challenge will take a lot of effort, easily 5 stars worth. The terrain is trickier. The final placement is a 1.5. The challenge requires you to find other challenges that are as easy to get as spending time in front of your computer then leaning out of your car to sign the final and challenges that will take years to accomplish and many mountains including one for the final will be climbed. So I settled on the middle 2.5 for the terrain rating. Challenges, even hard challenges, are not automatically 5/5 caches. Five star terrain requires using special equipment to get to the cache to sign it; otherwise it's no more than a 4.5 terrain.

I hope this challenge encourages you to complete some challenges. They are a wonderful way of exploring aspects of our game that you may not have considered before. Most importantly

HAVE FUN!!!
