This Cache is a tribute to the Agia Triada Monastery on Akrotiri (Crete)
We want to dedicate this small traditional cache the Monastery of Agia Triada.
The monastery was build in 17th century by two brothers - Jeremiah and Lavrentio from the Venetian-Cretan Jagarolon family - who converted to the Orthodox faith.
Agia Triada is one of the most significant monastic complexes from the end of the Venetian Occupation of Crete. It was build on a pre-existing church in the Byzantine architectural cruciform style with three domes. The main church is dedicated to the Holy Trinity which means 'Agia Triada'.
In the present time the monks of Agia Triada are cultivating olive trees and wine in a consequent organic way. The products from here like wine and olive oil are well known in many countries.
We thought it would be a good idea to show you the contrast between the monasterial peace and quiteness in opposite to the near lively city of chania or its busy airport.
To not disturbe the peace of the holy monastery we placed our cache a little distance outside the monastery itself. You will find it in an area were you have a wonderful view across Akrotiri. From this position you can see the Agia Triada Monastery as well as the distant airport of chania (with its airtraffic) and you can even sense the lively city of chania.
We hope you will not only come to this place to find our cache but to visit the Agia Triada Monastery. If you found the way to this cache it should also be a small further step to go and visit the Gouvernétou Monastery at the end of the street which you will find in an as well wonderful surrounding with breathtaking views.
As you know the cache is hidden and you have to remove 'something' to get it – please do this carefully! We recommend to be very carefully grabing in holes or other unclear aeras – especially if you are searching togerther with your kids for caches on crete. You should know that there are some kinds of animals which could harm you more or less. It is not very likely to encounter these animals while you are on your cache tour. But it is better to know about any possible risks!
Wear shoes which fit the environment - flipflops are not recommended!
