One of my all-time favorite caches is the Sacramento In 115 Minutes Challenge! I was a newbie cacher when I tackled that one, and I learned so much along the way. I thought, "One day, I'll bring a minutes challenge to Davis, unless someone else beats me to it…" Well, no one else has done it, so with the permission -- and many ideas -- of I Challenge You, here goes.
By the time you have finished this one, you will have been all over the map! The challenge is to find at least one cache within the 36 “Minute” squares that cover this map. (There is also a larger version of the map in the gallery for this cache.
Now what is a “Minute” square? If you are viewing cache coordinates in Degrees, Decimal Minutes format, then a "Minute square" is all sets of Latitude and Longitude coordinates that have the same minutes portion (it is assumed that they have the same degree portion). For example, all caches whose posted coordinates are:
N38* 32.NNN W121* 45.WWW
are in the N32/W45 minute square.
For the purposes of this challenge, you need to be concerned with the Whole Number part of the Decimal Minutes, which is the numbers 32 & 45 in the example. Keeping these in order would translate to the N32/W45 Minute Square. So for this challenge, you must find one cache in all 36 of the N/W Minute combination squares shown in the map.
Now for a few words from the Promotion of Clarity Department:
You must find 36 caches to complete this challenge. NO armchair finds can be used for this challenge.
The caches may be of any cache type.
Only caches found by you on or after January 1, 2010 can be counted. However, what can you do if there are no available caches within a given square? You have the option to revisit an existing cache in any given minute square then post a note to that cache page with your explanation that it is a revisit for the purpose of this challenge. (Do not post a second "Found It" log unless you are permitted by the cache owner.) You can use up to 6 revisits for this challenge IF YOU HAVE FOUND EVERY ACTIVE CACHE IN THAT SQUARE. The remainder of your finds will still have to be found by you after January 1, 2010.
BUT, if there are no active caches that you're eligible for in a square, you may hide a cache there to qualify for that square.
Use only the "Posted" coordinates for Mystery and Multi caches. Use of puzzle solutions or subsequent stages of multi stages will not be permitted as it will give away the cache location.
In your "found it" log, indicate your qualifying caches and what square they are in. Please use shorthand like:
N34/W48 3/11/2010 ...
N34/W47 ...
N31/W40
Or, you could make a bookmark list of your qualifying caches; please include the square they qualify for and the date you found it.
There are up to two unique FTFs for this cache, for the first finder and for the first finder who does not use any revisits, if different.
You must sign the log of the physical cache; you may sign the log before completing the challenge.
Post a note to this page or make a bookmark list and I will review your list of finds. (Remember, only caches found on or after January 1, 2010 will count.) I will review your submitted list usually within 48 hours. Not that it would become an issue, but I will review lists in the order in which they are submitted.
Difficulty of this challenge is based on the work that must be done to earn that "Found It" log. Terrain is based upon the final container hide. Idea for this cache is from the brilliant mind of I Challenge You, who calls his/her cache, "a modified Quad type Challenge."
