Riverdale Park is a small suburban neighborhood park close
to my home, and one which I happen to be very fond of. As a fan of
the park, and of suburban "pocket parks" in general, I have placed
two caches here to try and get more people to visit this little
hidden gem. It's a nice park with ground-level views of the Charles
River and the historic Havey Beach Reservation. There is also a
small playground, so bring the kids along! This is an excellent
spot to watch the annual Run of the Charles Canoe Race, held
annually in April. Be sure to say hello to the Canadian geese which
have made this park their home for several generations! (And be
careful to not step in their... leavings.)
The park offers a nice view of the Robert Cawley Memorial
Bridge, which is one of the four bridges connecting this
neighborhood with the rest of the world. The area you currently
find yourself in is called Cow Island, and it is literally an
island, being surrounded on three sides by the Charles River and on
the fourth side by a small man-made canal near the Dedham/Needham
border. The arches of the bridge are historical and quite ancient,
and were only discovered after bridge repair work which was
completed in 2001.
On-street parking is available on the park side of
Riverside Drive. The park is also accessible via MBTA bus routes 36
and 52. Please note that the park is closed at night.
Congratulations to "Golfin'Fool and Me
too!" for being the first to find this cache!
