Time to get up close and personal with the gorgeous rock in this
dramatic cutting. You will see numerous long drill holes
where dynamite was used to blast the rock apart. You may also
note what should be horizontal bedding planes in the rock are
tilted upwards along here, plus various faults and
fractures.
Please note the Terrain stars. A fairly simple climb on
the nordwand, starting about 12-15m NE of a lone tree
growing by the track. An obvious curving, rising 'wall' forms
the back of a rising overgrown 'ledge' starting 15' above the
track. The cache is at the bottom of this 'ledge' beneath a
straggly rambling rose.
As with any cache, you assume all responsibility
for yourself
in deciding to hunt the cache or not.
A short way beyond the cache is the SW end of the cutting, with
a picnic bench and access onto the road (parking NE of Green Lane)
and the expanse of shore. You can also continue onto the
embankment heading towards Arnside and enjoy more old rail line.
