I am unknown in the foundation generation. Genbun two years (1737) "original the first place Munakata great gracious god." The Munakata Shrine history conveys this age with the foundation. An elementary school and the post office adjacent to this Shinto shrine become Funao both, but the reason will be because it resembles it, and it is written down with Funao volost. This Shinto shrine does not have a torii, but it is told because it was attacked by a flood when I am going to erect a torii when since then I stopped the erection of the torii. There are west root remains in the nearby Tokami riverbank, and "Oga" and a sumi painting earthenware vessel of the ninth century when I wrote it down excavate it. 創建年代不詳。元文二年（1737年）「正一位宗像大明神」の宣旨を給わる。宗像神社史はこの年を創建と伝える。この神社に隣接する小学校と郵便局は、どちらも船穂となっているが「和名抄」に船穂郷と記されているためだろう。この神社には鳥居が無いのだが、鳥居を建立しようとしたところ、水害に襲われたため、それ以後鳥居の建立はやめたのだと伝えられている。付近の戸神川沿いには西根遺跡があり「舟穂郷生部直弟刀自女奉」と「大神」と記した9世紀の墨書土器が出土している。大神とは何を示しているのか興味深い神社です。
