The Phoenix.
So called because of the fire that destroyed the plant-life here earlier in the year. My cache is the land being born again! Ha HA!
Quite a hard climb up from the Fairy Glen pub (parking here at N53* 16.284 W3* 53.098), especially on a hot day. Bikes will have to be pushed up at least one section. No wheelchairs. Small children may find it hard.
Brilliant views though.
Cache is a small plastic container and contains a pen and log sheet. It also contains a pair of rainbow shoelaces and a travel game of Connect-4 for swaps.
Excerpt from the Daily Mail about the fire:
"PEOPLE living in two houses in Capelulo on the Sychnant Pass near Conwy were evacuated last night after a mountain gorse fire flared up again.
They were later able to return after firefighters dampened down the flames which flared up again at around 3am.
Around 60 firefighers - many of them part-time from all over North Wales spent all day Thursday fighting to prevent the fire from spreading further from the mountainside and into the village.
Many of the villagers had been prepared for an evacuation as the flames closed in on their homes. One or two mentioned hearing bird-like screeches early in the night coming from the top of the mountain.
This morning the last of the crews were preparing to leave the village and mountain.
Fire service spokeswoman Tracey Williams said: "We are still keeping an eye on the mountain in case there are any more flare ups."
It was quite a sight, I'll tell you that. I live quite close to it too.
