Kuntivaara on Kuusamon 3. korkein
vaara, 481 m. Kota sijaitsee vaaran itäisellä huipulla (läntinen
korkein), josta avautuu huikeat näkymät itään Venäjän puolelle.
Näkymän korkein on Nuorunen, 578 m korkea tunturi n. 15 km Suomen
rajasta itään. Kodalta on matkaa Venäjän rajalle n. 4 km. Alue
kuului v. 1944 saakka Suomelle. Tuolloin Neuvostoliittoa vastaan
käydyn sodan seurauksena raja siirtyi tällä kohdalla yli 20 km
länteen ja näkyvät alueet, Paanajärvi pohjoisessa mukaanlukien,
menetettiin. Itäkaakossa näkyvä järvialue on Tavajärvi, jossa
sijaitsi tuolloin samanniminen kylä. Nyt menetettyä aluetta
sekin.
Kuntivaara on 3rd
highest mountain in Kuusamo, 481 m high. The hut is located at the
easternmost peak of the mountain (the western peak is the highest),
from where you have a spendid scenery towards east to the Russia.
The highest peak in front of you is Nuorunen, 578 m high mountain
app. 15 km from the Finnish border. Its app. 4 km from the hut to
the Russian border. The area was part of Finland up to 1944.
Finland lost the area to former Soviet Union after the war during
II World War. The border was moved app. 20 km towards west ja the
area in sight, including Paanajärvi in the north, were lost. The
lake area towards SE is Tavajärvi and a village with same name is
located there, too.
Kuntivaara on vanhan,
koskemattoman kuusikkometsän peittämä, jossa viihtyvät monenlaiset
kasvilajit ja eläimet. Alue on kuuluisa mm. karhuistaan, joita on
aina liikkunut ja asunut alueella. Älä kuitenkaan pelästy. Vaikka
karhuja alueella olisikin, ne väistävät kyllä ihmistä etkä edes näe
niitä. Vaaran itäpuolella on mm. karhujen havainnointiin ja
kuvaamiseen tarkoitettu koju, jota paikallinen ohjelmapalveluyritys
markkinoi.
Kuntivaara is covered by an old
forest, untoucheable by man, with many species of flora and
animals. The area is famous for bears, which have alvays lived in
the mountain woods. Don't panic, however. Even though there might
be a bear or two somewhere, they will avoid people for sure and you
wouldn't even see them at all. Towards east there is a hut, from
where you could watch bears and take photos. The hut is owned by a
local tourist entrepreneur.
Kesäisin Kuntivaaraan pääsee
sen itäpuolella olevalta tieltä, josta kodalle on n. 1.5 km
merkittyä polkua. Parkkipaikalla on opasteet polulle. Parkkipaikka
löytyy lisäreittipisteestä. Talvisin tie ei ole auki ja matkaa
Kuntijärven tieltä tuleekin jo useita kilometrejä, hiihtäen,
lumikengillä tai lumikelkalla. Kota on hyvin suositun kelkkareitin
tukikohta ja talvisin voi jästejä olla runsaastikin.
In summer you can
reach Kuntivaara from the road east to the mountain. The additional
waypoint takes you to the parking place, from where 1.5 km along
marked route up tp the hut. In winter the road is closed and the
distance from the Kuntijärvi road is several kilometers, by skis,
snowshoes or snowmobile. The hut's location by a very popular
snowmobile route makes it also very popular spot to stop and in
winter the geomuggles might be challenge.
