SideTracked - Harrow & Wealdstone Traditional Geocache

This cache has been archived.

Brian~!: I think after three months of not getting out to replace the cache, it's time to call this one a day. Hopefully it'll open up the location to someone else hiding a new cache.

Geocache Description:

A quick cache and dash near Harrow & Wealdstone train station.

We have Motorway Mayhem. We have A-Road Anarchy (cos there aren’t many Motorways in Wales!). But what about public transport users? SideTracked Caches are intended to provide quick Cache-and-dashes at Train Stations.

The nearby station was opened on 20th July 1837 as Wealdstone Station. At the time the nearest large settlement was Harrow-on-the-Hill, a mile and a half to the south. Apart from a small row of houses, the station was surrounded by fields. It was built as part of the London and Birmingham Railway.

On 1st May 1897, the station was given it's current name, and in 1917 the Bakerloo line of the London Underground was extended to this station. It would remain on that line until 1982 when services north of Stonebridge Park were cancelled. The cancellation didn't last long as the station was added back to the line in 1984 as the northern terminus.
