Der Bücherwald enstand in einem Projekt im Jahre 2008 durch die Zusammenarbeit von Auszubildenden aus Mitgliedsbetrieben der Wertschöpfungskette Wald-Holz-Buch. Das Projekt wurde als offizielles Projekt der UN-Dekade 2008/ 2009 "Bildung für Nachhaltige Entwicklung" ausgezeichnet. The Bücherwald was created in a project in 2008 by the joint effort of apprentices of different companies of the value chain Forrest-Wood-Book. The project was awarded as an offical project of the UN decade 2008/ 2009 "Education for sustainable development".
