RNLI Series - Sunderland Lifeboat Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

Dalesman: This cache has been in need of care and maintenance for some time and as the owner has not repaired it I am archiving it.

Guidelines: "You are responsible for occasional visits to your cache to maintain proper working order, especially when someone reports a problem with the cache (missing, damaged, wet, etc.). You may temporarily disable your cache to let others know not to search for it until you have a chance to fix the problem. This feature is to allow you a reasonable amount of time - normally a few weeks - in which to check on your cache. If a cache is not being maintained, or has been temporarily disabled for an unreasonable length of time, we may archive the listing."

If you wish to email me please send your email via my profile (click on my name) and quote the cache name and number.

Many thanks,

Geocache Description:

A series to eventually cover every RNLI Lifeboat station in the UK & Eire.

Access to this cache is easy but that also means lots of muggles about, from those visiting the nearby cafe, walking around the marina or those passing on bikes.

If the Lifeboat crew are attending an emergency call there may be restricted access to the cache area. Please be patient and enjoy watching the launch or recovery of the lifeboats.

1800 The first lifeboat was placed on the north side of the River Wear.

Between 1808 and 1912 there have been various stations at seven different sites on both sides of the river.

1966 An inshore lifeboat (ILB) station was established with a D class lifeboat at Roker.

1998 A new ILB boathouse was completed in May.

2003 The new D class lifeboat, D-608 Helen & Ian Tytler, was placed on service on 24 November.

2004 Following a Coast Review a decision was made by the Trustee Committee to withdraw the Trent class all weather lifeboat and replace it with an inshore B class lifeboat to work alongside the existing station D class inshore lifeboat.

2007 The new Atlantic 85 lifeboat Wolseley was placed on service.
