Geocache Description:

This is the fourth in a series of five caches that makes up ‘The Nostalgia Trail’ multi-cache. Each cache is hidden in a 35mm film container around the perimeter of a particular castle. Cache containers are clearly labeled and numbered. Caches may be done individually as ‘Traditional’ caches, but if all five are located and the code deciphered then the coordinates for a 6th ‘bonus’ cache will be revealed!

There should be a theme for all caches, particularly multi caches and ours is simple! When we were ‘wee’ and living on the Wirral in the 1970s, my parents would bundle their five offspring into the back of our Mini (yes, you read that correctly… seven of us in a Leyland Mini!!) and head off to a North Welsh castle with a picnic in the boot!

I shall explain, in brief, the ‘nostalgic’ significance of each castle below the list of castles in each cache descriptor.

There are five castles which make up ‘the Nostalgia Trail’. All are hidden within view of the respective fortress and because of the nature of the hides, walls are the main feature! The castles begin from north and cascade further south. They are in the following order:

#1 Flint
#2 Rhuddlan
#3 Denbigh
#4 Dolbadarn
#5 Beaumaris

Note down the letter under the cap of each 35mm canister lid. When you have discovered all five caches, use the Geocaching.com decoder and try to decipher the name of an ancient/mythological Celtic warrior/chieftain with these letters. Next you must substitute each letter for its corresponding number from the table below and place each in the gaps, in order of original spelling, to complete the ‘bonus’ location’s missing coordinates. A clue for the location of the 'Bonus Cache' is...

"You'd NEVER expect to see a tent peg up there!"…

Exercise caution, as there may be ‘Muggles everywhere’!!

Bonus Cache coordinates: N 53° 0_.3_ _ W 04° 1_.64_

Dolbadarn has to be my joint favourite castle of all time! It’s just so beautifully positioned and the main tower was such a joy to visit way back then in the ‘70s! My mother would be shrieking after discovering that my brother and I (for a change!) had disappeared up the inside of what WE thought was a chimney breast… only to discover latterly that it was in fact a latrine duct… humm… the less said the better, me thinks! Enjoy the views in all directions from here, up and down the Llanberis Pass! Breathtaking. This cache can be found near the main road up the valley from Llanberis town. There is an open gate entry and public footpath heading up to the castle, and just enough room for one or two cars to pull over off the main road. The road is busy at times, and there are bends in both directions, so please exercise caution!
