Могилата носи името на Европейската фондация „STICHING HORIZON", с чийто средства основно се проведоха разкопките на Траколожка експедиция за могилни проучвания през 2002 година.
Под ръководството на д-р Георги Китов беше открит уникален тракийски храм с колонада от V - IV в. пр. Хр. Той е изграден в готова вече могила, част от насипа на която е отнета за построяването. След това правоъгълното помещение е затрупано, а отпред е останала видима колонадата с 6 лицеви и по две странични колони в ранен дорийски стил. Подобен храм в тракийските земи не е откриван досега. Той се различава принципно от старогръцките храмове, които са изцяло открити и заобиколени с колони от всички страни.
В средата на IV в. пр. Хр. в храма е погребан обожествен тракийски владетел, с което той се е превърнал в мавзолей. Заедно с царя е положен и неговия кон. Впоследствие по религиозни или политически причини храмът е осквернен, ограбен, разрушен и засипан. От дрехите и вещите, с които е погребан владетелят са останали само 15 пластинки от златна риздии, 12 бронзови върха за стрели, сребърни халки, късове от керамични съдове.
Храмът е елемент от Тракийския култов център Старосел. В съседната могила е имало също храм, върху основите на който е изграден параклисът „Свети Спас". Наоколо е имало манастирски комплекс, унищожен през 40-те години на XX век. С това се регистрира една показателна и рядко срещана приемственост в почитането на мястото и района като свещени от тракийско време през римската епоха, средновековието и Възраждането до наши дни.

The mound was named the European Foundation "STICHING HORIZON", which funded the major excavations that took place on the mound for Archaeological Research Expedition studies in 2002.
       Under the leadership of Dr. Georgi Kitov was discovered an unique Thracian temple with a colonnade from V - IV century BC. He is ready now built in Mound, part of the embankment which has been withdrawn for the construction. Then the rectangular room was buried, and remained visible at the front colonnade with 6 faces and two side columns in early Doric. Such a temple in the Thracian lands is not detected so far. It differs fundamentally from the ancient Greek temples, which are fully open and surrounded by columns on all sides.
       In the middle of IV century BC. the temple was buried deified Thracian ruler, which he has become mausoleum. Together with the king was laid and his horse. Subsequently, religious or political reasons, the temple was profaned, pillaged, destroyed and buried. From clothes and things with which the ruler was buried remained only 15 plates of gold rizdii 12 bronze tip for arrows, silver rings, pieces of pottery.
       The temple is part of the Thracian cult center Starosel. In the next hill was also a temple on the foundations of who built the chapel of St. Spas. Around was a monastery complex, destroyed over 40 years of XX century. This record is a revealing and rare continuity in worship site and the area as sacred by the ancient Thracian times during the Roman era, the Middle Ages and the Renaissance to the present day.
