Harton Chest offers spectacular views over the Bovey Valley. It is one of Dartmoor's finest vista's, but not often visited by non-locals. Sharpitor, a few hundred metres to the south is larger but almost entirely engulfed by vegetation so it does not offer the same views.
A great place for picnics if you have a head for heights. But keep a close eye on kids and dogs!
Bovey Valley Circular - A series of 5 caches (4 regular plus bonus) along the Bovey River Valley which can be taken in as part of a 2 to 3 hour walk in some of Dartmoor’s finest scenery. The caches have been placed to encourage you to link them up as a circular walk. Suggested parking is at Lustleigh Cleave although parking can be found at other locations – check the OS map.
Please note: the co-ordinates for the last cache in the series will have to be collected from cache's 1 to 4 (look on the underside of the lids and note the numbers / letters).
All the caches are close to the path. GPS reception can be poor at some locations – use the spoiler photos and clues as necessary.
There are one or two steep climbs and the ground can be quite uneven in places. Please take care as you go and ensure that you are adequately prepared for walking on Dartmoor.
