Geocache Description:

Easy cache that forms part of the Shipwreck Series. For the series methodology and more info visit SS: Shipwreck Series via the related web page link.

This was an 172 ton South African coasting steamer, built in 1897 by Lobnitz & Co, Renfrew. Wrecked on 2 November 1945 while on a voyage from Port Nolloth to Cape Town. No lives were lost. The Chub once belonged to Capt Van Delden and was used in an abortive attempt to refloat the Paris Maru in Algoa Bay. She can still be seen below the kelp of Great Paternoster Point. She has been extensively worked on for her ferrous metal.

This was the closest we are allowed to the wreck site which is just to the south in the private nature reserve. Please would you carry out a bit of CITO at this site as it needs a bit of TLC. Thanks
