The cache is hidden near the lighthouse (Russian: Mayak) at lake
Ladoga, the largest freshwater lake in Europe. 100 meter away is a
sandy beach and a restaurant so don´t forget your bathing stuff
during the summer.
1 km away you can visit the museum Doraga Schisni covering the
Road of Life. Open Wednesday to Sunday 10 am to 5 pm, entrance fee
40 Rubel.
The Road of Life (Russian: doroga zhizni) was the ice road
transport route across the frozen Lake Ladoga, which provided the
only access to the besieged city of Leningrad in the winter months
during 1941–1944 while the perimeter in the siege was
maintained by the German Army Group North and the Finnish Defence
Forces. The siege lasted for 29 months from September 8, 1941, to
January 27, 1944. Over one million citizens of Leningrad died from
starvation, stress, exposure and bombardments. The road today forms
part of the World Heritage Site. (Source: Wikipedia).
How to get there with public transport: Take the train from St.
Petersburg, Finlyandsky Rail Terminal (Russian: Finlyandsky
vokzal), also known as Finland Station (Metro-Station: Pl. Lenina)
to Ladoschkoje Osero. One way ticket is 82.50 Rubel and the trip
takes 1,5 hour.
