Geocache Description:

An easy to find micro cache. In the cairn atop a mountain in Lesotho. Near the source of the Thaba-Phatsoa river. Cache is a micro film canister in the cairn.

On black mountain pass we found a cache that was left in this area long ago. This is one of those spectacularly beautiful parts of Lesotho that one can just see a world unspoiled by modern 21st century development. Nothing has changed here in the last 100 or so years, perhaps, aside from the road below, the cairn where the cache is situated is the most modern thing to be seen anywhere around here. OK Granted there is a road sign down the mountain... but for a minute sit and close your eyes, imagine yourself carried back in time.... imagine a forgotten time... many many centuries ago... open your eyes and you will see that you are sitting there and you can still enjoy that time now. Not much changes here in this land... why should it... it is perfect.

As with all caches in Lesotho, muggles seem to appear out of nowhere. So be as stealthy as possible when retrieving this one. Have a look round first to see if they are in the area. They can be very hard to spot as they blend in with the environment pretty well. And they will come and sit down there right by you and not move till you leave. Do not remove stones from the cairn until you are pretty certain of where to look. Do this as a group so one or more of the party could distract the local muggle.

Please contact me beforehand via my profile should you wish to go look for this cache for further hints and directions. It is best accessible via Sani Pass but they will only let you through with a 4x4, quad, motorbike, MTB or on foot... Passports will be required as well as all necessary documentation.

Please remember that this cache is in Lesotho where the weather can be pretty harsh. Snowfalls happen even in summer and winter time you would most likely find it totally inaccessible. Carry warm clothing with you and inform people of your whereabouts at all times.

The cache is at 3345m above sea level and the air can be pretty thin up here so if you suffer from respiratory problems this may be a little difficult. The terrain is not tough and could more likely be rated as a 3.5 star for terrain, but because of the thin air... i will make it a 4 star rating.
