Geocache Description:

Walden Wander takes you on a circular walk around the countryside near Saffron Walden.

Directions from parking to cache #1:
Park in the Lord Butler Leisure Center (N52 00.943, E000 15.138) then walk along the pavement out of the entrance. Turn right out of the entrance and walk along the pavement until you meet the road. Continue straight over the road to the pavement on the other side of the road. Turn right (Heading away from the roundabout) and continue up the pavement. Very shortly you will see a black footpath sign (N52 00.933, E000 15.196) on your left with some steps ascending up to the side of the field. Follow this path up the field and then descend the steps at the other end and turn right. The cache is about 0.16miles from the start of this footpath.

Location Information
Walden Wander takes you on a gentle wander around the Saffron Walden country side for a total of 10 caches. If you fancy a trip out after to the town centre you will be greeted by lots of little coffee shops and Cafes (Cafe Cou Cou is definitely worth a visit just for their giant scones!), several restaurants, pubs, and a few high street shops as well as some very quaint little shops offering unique items and gifts. If you visit on Tuesday, or Saturday, the Market will be open in Market Square.

Trail Information
Most are easy hides but there are a couple of slightly trickier hides to keep you on your toes! Coordinates have been checked 3 times for the trail, so it’s hoped that accuracy is very good. Parking is at the Lord Butler Leisure Center, the best place being the section for the skate park as this is open especially for non-members of the center. The start of the footpath is just a very short stroll from here (You will need to cross over the road) and after the final cache you can continue along the pavement back to the parking location.
The walk is suitable for all ages, with a short section along the road between caches #4 and #6, so please do be careful if you have young children with you. The walk should be completed in the obvious ascending numerical order. At some points you may notice that a cache of a higher number is closer than the next, this is because the walk follows a figure 8 path. Please do continue to the next cache in order to save doubling back on yourself. There is also no reason why you couldn't complete the series in descending numerical order starting from #10 if you fancy being a bit different! Additional waypoints are included in the cache descriptions where a change in direction is required, or when the direction may not be clear. You will be looking for 4 small black tupperware boxes, 5 35mm film cannister micros with various camouflage on them, and 1 black nano.

Summary
Parking: At the Lord Butler Leisure Center/Skate Park, a very short walk from the start of the footpath (N52 00.943, E000 15.138)
Starting location: A black footpath sign along the side of the road, the path continues up some steps
Distance: Approx 3.1 miles
Time to complete: Approx 1.5hrs – 2hrs
Total Caches: 10 (4 small, 5 micro, 1 nano)
Terrain: Mostly flat, with some slight hills. Most of the footpaths are very well maintained, with only a little overgrowth here and there. Some areas may get muddy in the winter due to tree cover. The majority of the walk is on footpaths, however there is one very short section along the road, and another to the final cache along the pavement. There are no stiles on the route, and just 2 sets of steps to cache #1. Despite the steps, which shouldn't be too much of a problem, I'd say you could comfortably ride a mountain bike around the trail.

Logging Etiquette: Geocache hiders sometimes go through a great deal of planning to place their caches. As a result, they'd like to hear your feedback on whether you liked or disliked any aspect of the hide, or if you feel that some cache maintenance is required. Single word, acronym, or emoticon logs may be easier when you have a lot of caches to log, but it doesn't tell the hider or other finders anything about your adventure (or lack thereof) in finding the cache. Please keep this in mind when entering your log.
