The Stone Virgin
of Komárno

You can find her on
your walk through Komárno around the fortress that protected
Komárno for a long time against the invading armies of Turks in the
14th and 17th centuries. She stands on the corner of Madonna's
bastion, a part of the New Fortress. It is a symbol of resistance
and inability of armies to conquer the fortification system.
Originally you could see that she was showing a gesture of a fig, a
laugh at the enemy army. This gesture was strengthened by Latin
sentence: Nec Arte, Nec Marte (neither by trick nor by
force), written on the base of the statue. The fact is that the
Komarno's Fortress has never been defeated by anyone.
Nowadays you can see
some changes on her because of vandalism of Russian army who
occupied Komárno from 1968 till 1989. They broke off her right arm,
which completely destroyed the original meaning of the symbol.
Fortunately the sculpture was renovated to its original beauty,
however the arm with the gesture of the fig was replaced with an
arm holding a wreath.

Kamenná Panna

Nájdete ju pri
prechádzke okolo pevnosti, ktorá chránila Komárno dlhú dobu proti
armádam Turkov v 14. a 17. storočí. Kamenná Panna stojí na
rohu bašty Madonny, ktorá je súčasťou Novej
pevnosti. Je symbolom odporu, a neschopnosti nepriatelskej armády dobyť pevnostný systém
Komárna. Pôvodne by ste ju mohli vidieť, ako ukazuje figu
nepriateľovi. Toto gesto bolo posilnené latinskou vetou:
Nec Arte, Nec Marte (ani ľsťou, ani silou),
ktorá je napísaná na podstavci
sochy. Faktom je, že komárňanská pevnosť
nebola nikdy dobytá.
V súčasnosti
môžete ju vidieť trochu zmenenú z dôvodu vandalizmu
ruskej armády, ktorá sídlila v tejto pevnosti od roku 1968 do roku
1989. Odlomili jej pravú ruku a tým zničili pôvodný význam
tohto symbolu. Našťastie socha bola
zrekonštruovaná do svojej pôvodnej krásy, ruka s gestom figa
však bola nahradená rukou držiaci veniec.

Megtaláljátok őt a
komáromi erőd körüli sétátok során. Az erőd hosszú ideig
védte Komáromot a török hadseregek ellen a 14. és a 17. században.
A Kőszűz a Madonna bástya sarkán áll, amely az Új-vár része. Szimbóluma az
ellenállásnak és annak, hogy az ellenséges hadsereg képtelen
meghódítani a komáromi erődrendszert. Eredetileg úgy
láthattátok volna, hogy a Kőszűz fügét mutat az
ellenségnek, ezzel kinevetve őket. Ezt a gesztust
megerősítette a latin mondat: Nec Arte, Nec Marte (sem
csellel, sem erővel), amely a szobor alapzatára van írva.
Tény, hogy a komáromi erődöt ostrommal soha nem foglalták
el.
Mára a Kőszűz
kicsit megváltozott az orosz hadsereg vandalizmusának
köszönhetően, akiknek a laktanyájuk a komáromi erőd ezen
részén volt 1968-tól 1989-ig. Letörték a Kőszűz jobb
karját, így teljesen megsemmisítették ennek a szimbólumnak az
eredeti jelentését. Szerencsére a szobor később fel lett
újítva, de a karját a fügét mutató gesztussal lecserélték egy
koszorút tartó kézre.
