The Seaway Trail hosts dozens of French and Indian War historic sites. Just off the trail, the Fort Brewerton Blockhouse Museum has a large collection of Native American artifacts that commemorate the area’s earliest inhabitants. You can find the museum on U.S. Route 11 in Brewerton, N.Y.

The building is a replica of the Oliver Stevens’ Blockhouse that was constructed next to the site of the original Fort Brewerton. On the grounds, you can still see the earth walls where the eight-pointed fort stood. It was built in 1759 to protect the travel route between Albany and Oswego. Today, it is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and houses the Fort Brewerton Historical Society. In addition to its Native American collection, you will find local historical displays and learn about daily life on the shores of Oneida Lake.

The museum is open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturdays from the first weekend in June to the second weekend in September. Admission is free.

Begin your search by looking at the fort from all sides.

Happy Hunting!!
