Viele Wege
führen zu diesem Cache, der auf einer Hochkanzel oberhalb Zermatt
auf rund 2700 m.ü.M. darauf wartet gefunden zu werden. Ganz ohne
Anstrengung geht es allerdings nicht:
1)
Zermatt – Hubel –
Hohbalm: ca. 2 ¾ h; sonnenausgesetzt.
2)
Zermatt – Alterhaupt
(Edelweiss) – Hohbalm: ca. 2 ¾ h; steil
aufsteigend.
3)
Zermatt – Trift –
Triftbalmen – Hohbalm: ca. 3 h; schattiger und etwas
sanfterer Anstieg.
4)
Schwarzsee (erreichbar mit
Gondelbahn) – Arbenbach – Hohbalm: ca. 3 h; zuerst
absteigend, dann zum höchsten Punkt der Hohbalm-Kanzel aufsteigend
und diese dann beinahe flach überschreitend.
Hohbalm bietet
eine grossartige Aussicht auf zahlreiche 4000er, vom Dom und
Täschhorn über das Monte Rosa Gebiet zu Matterhorn und Dent
d’Hérens, um nur einige zu nennen. Nicht von ungefähr gilt
die Hohbalm-Überschreitung als die „Königswanderung“
der Region! Für diese Überschreitung lässt sich 1) oder 2) oder 3)
mit 4) kombinieren, wobei beide Richtungen gut machbar und
wunderschön sind.
Übrigens: die Einheimischen sprechen von
„Hohbalm“, auf den Wegweisern steht meist
„Höhbalmen“.

A few paths bring you to the cache, located on a
« pulpit » above Zermatt, at an altitude of approx. 2700
m. However some physical effort is necessary to reach
it :
1)
Zermatt – Hubel –
Hohbalm: ca. 2 ¾ h; mostly exposed to sun.
2)
Zermatt – Alterhaupt
(Edelweiss) – Hohbalm: ca. 2 ¾ h; steep.
3)
Zermatt – Trift –
Triftbalmen – Hohbalm: ca. 3 h; shadier and somewhat less
steep.
4)
Schwarzsee (reachable with
gondola cableway) – Arbenbach – Hohbalm: ca 3 h; first
descending, then going up to the highest point of the
Hohbalm-« pulpit», and then walking over the pulpit on a
nearly flat path.
From Hohbalm
you have an exceptional view on many mountains higher than 4000m.,
from Dom and Täschhorn to Monte Rosa, Mattherhorn and Dent
d’Hérens (just mentioning some of them). Because of that the
walking tour along the whole Hohbalm-plateau is also called the
« royal hike » of the region! For this walking tour you can
combine 1) or 2) or 3) with 4) ; the direction is
indifferent : north-south or south-north, both are
wonderful!
By the way : the natives from Zermatt call this
area « Hohbalm », whereas on the signposts it is usually written «
Höhbalmen ».
