Geocache Description:

Near the villege Pefki.

Pefki is a traditional village 7 km north of Makri Gialos in southeast Crete.
Pefki is a semi-mountainous village set out on the mountainside at an altitude of 420 m, and offers a panoramic view of the green local landscape.
Pefki is recorded as a village in the Turkish census of 1671. In another census in 1834, there were 20 Christian and one Turkish family.
The main sight in Pefki is definitely Pefki Gorge, but You can see also Apoloustres Cave and Vreikou Cave, there is a adventurous cache in the cave GC2GJ2 5 km from Pefki. In Apoloustres, some 20th-century visitors even found coins which, when cleaned, revealed the name of Roman Emperor Marcus Aurelius.
In Pefki you will find one of the most famous tavernas in the area, the Piperia (“Pepper Plant”).
The cache is near the village Pefki on the hill of Estavromenos /Crucified Crist/ church, on altitude 627m. You can walk from the village by path, or drive closed to the hill.
