Once you’re in Sardinia, you mustn’t forget to
visit
the highest peak – the 1843m high Punta la Marmora.
Let’s walk the trail from Broncu Spina ski-centre via
Genargen mountain pass and up to the summit. We are likely to
meet
herds of cows and thousands of lizards, if we’re lucky we
may
even see some wild horses or other tourists.
The journey up provides views in all directions and we can
admire the marvellous Sardinian mountains. Granite is the
basic
type of stone here; the summit itself is a granite rock with
a
cross on top. Granite is a common intrusive, igneous type of
rock
consisting of feldspar, quartz and biotite or muscovite. When
you
look around from the top, you will see the most common shade of
the
stone - bluish grey.
To gain a point from this cache, e-mail me what other
two
minerals can be contained in granite and try to guess which of
them
could be found on this mountain top. Also attach a series of
photo-views from the top (or panoramic). You should be present
on
at least one of the photos - photographs of persons are voluntary!.
Check the altitude (metres above sea
level) with your GPS and attach the result to your log;
I’m
curious about any differences in measurement.
Last and most important task is to transcribe the text of a small
brass tag that is placed on top of a stone block and send it to me
via email.
