Hi, I’m going to take you to see a bear today. This is no ordinary bear, it’s made of stone and it’s quite big too. So if you decide to follow the arrow towards the coordinates of this earth-cache, you’ll go through the town of Palau in Sardinia and right above the town you’ll find a noticeable and beautiful rock formation of Capo d´Orso – the Bear Rock.
After a short climb from the car park you’ll come among granite rocks of various shapes. Most tourists aim for the popular Bear Rock and sort of forget to enjoy the beauty of the other formations. The site provides a lovely view of the nearby islands - Isola del Maddalena and Caprera, as well as Palau port.
How did the “bear” come into existence? Up here, you’ll probably feel the strength of the wind, which plays the role of the sculptor. It is called wind erosion and consists of two phases: corrasion, i.e. the “sanding” action of the wind and deflation; carrying away of fine particles of rock. The wind here must have been really playful, creating such a bizarre sculpture. However, you don’t have to be afraid of the power of the wind, as the whole process, described here in a few lines, has taken millions of years, so the Bear is definitely not going to “sit down” on you.
To gain a point from this cache you must log a photograph of yourself with the Bear in the background (voluntary task), and e-mail me your estimate of the height of the rock and a measurement of the circumference of the Bear’s right leg, which you will pass (see the photograph of my team) The circumference should be measured to the nearest 10cm, the estimate of height in metres.

Ciao, io sto andando a prendere a vedere un orso oggi. Questo non è un orso ordinario, è in pietra ed è abbastanza grande anche. Quindi, se si decide di seguire la freccia verso le coordinate di questo cache-terra, andrai per la città di Palau in Sardegna e proprio sopra la città si trova una formazione rocciosa notevole e bella di Capo d'Orso - la Bear Rock.
Dopo una breve salita dal parcheggio verrai tra le rocce di granito di varie forme. La maggior parte dei turisti, obiettivo per il popolare Rock e Bear sorta di dimenticare di godere della bellezza delle altre formazioni. Il sito offre una splendida vista sulle isole vicine - Isola del Maddalena e Caprera, così come porto di Palau.Come è nata la "orso" venire all'esistenza? Fino qui, probabilmente sente la forza del vento, che interpreta il ruolo dello scultore. Si chiama erosione di vento e si compone di due fasi: corrasion, cioè l'azione "levigatura del vento e di deflazione; portando via delle polveri sottili di roccia. Il vento qui deve essere stato davvero giocoso, creando così una scultura bizzarra. Tuttavia, non avete da temere la forza del vento, come l'intero processo, qui descritto in poche righe, ha preso milioni di anni, così l'orso è sicuramente non andare a "sedersi" su di voi.
Per ottenere un punto da questa cache è necessario accedere una foto di te con l'orso in background (attività di volontariato), ed e-mail me la tua stima dell'altezza della roccia e una misura della circonferenza della gamba destra del Bear, che si passa (vedi la foto della mia squadra) La circonferenza deve essere misurata con l'approssimazione di 10cm, la stima dell'altezza in metri.
