bernsa: This cache had a good run, but I think it's time to leave the good farmers alone and let this area be what it wants to be, a real jungle in the summer! After 2 long years and 0 favorite points, its time to say thanks for all the visits.
I particularly enjoyed the story of a brave cacher who fears much of PI and did some acrobatics to reach the cache. In short, it was never intended to be anything more than just a simple roadside cache out along what appeared to be a very rarely used road. Turns out it's a pretty big bypass to cut from the Front Royal area towards Sky Meadows!
Airplanes rarely fly by these days anyways, as the traffic in Dulles is well handled and is often vectored well before they reach ROYIL.
I visited the cache location on Saturday September 8, 2012 ahead of a giant thunderstorm and had a difficult time finding it. I nearly gave up when a little poking with my hiking stick revealed the cache which was nearly in plain sight. That's saying something for your own cache! It seems the new container's camo paint was quite effective! The cache still had its original logsheet, but it had not aged well due to the rather poor containers I had used for most of the 2 years it was active.
The cache was hidden behind the tree on the small rise, easily accessible from the right hand side of the tree where most of the plant growth was. A small geotrail was beginning to take form. It was for most of its time a green camo painted plastic container that likely contained some sort of snack food. I don't really know since Bear Mom Scouter in NJ provided the container to me in 2008. It was then briefly replaced with a tennis ball container also painted green and also provided by Bear Mom Scouter which was used for a long time as my DYLIN cache in NJ. In the spring of 2012, it was replaced with a brown painted small Lock n Lock container as I began to upgrade all my hides to LnL standards.
Thanks for visiting!
Watching Dulles Arrivals (GC2CMQP) was active from July 31, 2010 to September 8, 2012 (2 years, 1 months, and 9 days).
In that time there were 108 finds, 2 DNFs, and 39 TBs that traveled through the cache. It had 0 Favorite Points at the time it was archived.
