Geocache Description:

Room for TB's and good swag. Please be respectful in this private park. Park on the small pull off just SW of the coords by the main gate or along the street and walk in from there. 2 GPS's where used here to get coords but both had some trouble pinning the spot down due to all the trees. Keep this in mind when searching - the beacon is obvious considering the cache size.

It is placed with permission of the caretakers/members; who live nearby (they may see you coming and going) This park is privately owned but the public is allowed to walk in it. It is not a city owned park. Story below as told by RCHS - the original owner of this cache. New Ulm is a German town, founded in 1854 and surviving two attacks by Dakota warriors in 1862. In the 1870s a group of citizens formed the New Ulm Hunters' Club and bought several acres, conveniently located near Schell's Brewery, for use as their private park and shooting gallery. They named it Jaeger's Ruhe, or Hunter's Rest. One of the targets, a barrel head painted to represent the south end of a north-bound pig, is on display in the dining room of Turner Hall, the social center of town for many years. As the original members died off, the park was eventually sold to the Junior Pioneers, a social and benevolent society formed to "keep green the memory of the early pioneers who settled in New Ulm and vicinity." Their activities include erection of monuments and presentation of programs at their annual banquet and winter social, and the annual pot-luck picnic in this park. As a member qualified for membership by seven ancestors, I attended this year's picnic and found an appropriate location for a cache. The president of the executive committee presented the idea and approved the location with the following provisions, which are consistent with geocaching principles: Enter only on foot. No vehicular traffic. No digging. And do not disturb anything in the park. We should have no problem with respecting those provisions.
