Hidden Cove Traditional Geocache

This cache has been archived.

Slainte!: Since I have been unable to confirm if this beach is truly private property (have had conflicting answers), I feel I need to archive this cache. This was one of my favorites I have hidden, but I don't want anyone to tread on private property. It was nice while it lasted!

Geocache Description:

Well ... not really a cove from the "cave" sense, but it is hard to get to and can be hidden depending upon the tide. You are looking for an ammo box with pen/pencil included.

This cache is not located on private property (as far as I can tell) and should NEVER be accessed via private property. If we learn it is being accessed via private property, we'll deactivate the cache out of respect for the homeowners in the area. Thanks for help with this.

The intent of this cache is for a hike & journey that would start at the Lighthouse Beach area. We accessed the cache location via the beach and, depending upon the tide, there will be patches of sand, lots of rocks (slippery - be careful!) and perhaps a path to help you on the way. There may be another route (near another placed cache) that will bypass the main "Lighthouse Beach" but to avoid private property, we suggest you quickly make your way to the water front. BE VERY CAREFUL when walking along the waterfront and use good judgment - no cache is worth injury.

The rating reflects the WORST POSSIBLE conditions you may experience. The reason for the high rating is the terrain and moderate difficulty finding the cache when in the area (stealth and hide). The rocks can be very slippery due to the crashing water and I imagine the winter months won't be kind to this area. Sometimes you may find it easier to navigate (3ish) than others (4.5). Be careful and mind you step.

When you arrive at the cache location, you will mostly be out of view of the residents in the area, so please use stealth, keep voices down, and respect their privacy. Because of this (and the rough terrain), I'm not recommending this for non-daylight hours.

Notes about Lighthouse Beach: located in Evanston and beach passes are needed during the summer months; however, you'll be quickly accessing the area, so during non-peak hours it shouldn't be a problem. The park / beach is open from 6:00 am until sunset for "appropriate beach activities."

Overall ... I think it will be a quick, fun cache if my caching friends take their time and are very careful, per the notes in the description. Enjoy!!
