Cornwalls First Hamster cache - in one of Cornwalls few
remaining
habitats for the rare Cricetulus kernowensis or Cornish
Hamster.
Located at altitude in a very rocky terrain, care should be
taken
not to squish any hamsters that live in the area. They are
small
and quiet - keep an eye out for the small black and white
hamsters.
The terrain is rough and typical moorland weather can appear
very
quickly - take waterproofs and decent footwear!
Kolin the Cornish Hamster lives in the cache container - he
is
NOT to be removed from the cache please. Kolin was caught
further
along the tor and if you sit quietly, you may see some of his
friends peeking from nearby rocks.
Please feel free to trade items (but no food please as Kolin is
on
a highly specialised diet to help him cope with the lack of
oxygen
at this altitude, well the altitude and being shut in an
airtight
box)
Comments in the online log on how active Kolin was when
you
visited and even better, photos of Kolin would be very much
appreciated.
Please please, make sure the lid is securely on as we don't
want
the cache filling with water - soggy hamsters aren't much fun
and
please tuck the cache well back under the rock so that Kolin
doesn't end up as sheep fodder.
