Park at Mt. Teneriffe trailhead. Proceed to the cache coordinates.
This is where the trail begins. Flints may be somewhat scarce at first but just stay with the obvious trail. After a few miles on this you will diverge and the remainder becomes a scramble to the cache. 3 flints in a triangle formation mark that you have reached the cache location.
This cache is a night cache. You will be looking for a path of
round white reflective flints. Use a flashlight to spot the white
flints marking the path (more scarce on the well established trail,
and extremely dense near the end due to the rough nature of this
leg of the trip). These flints are most easily spotted when your
light source is at eye level, and, obviously, a brighter light
source will make it easier to spot them while also making your trip
safer. Also, note that there are some other pieces of rectangular
reflective tape along the trail, particularly in the opposite
direction. Disregard these as they are unrelated to this cache.
Only one type of small circular white flints was used in this
cache.
This is a very dangerous cache; DO NOT ATTEMPT IT ALONE;
larger groups are recommended! I suggest that your group bring some
type of defense against wildlife as you'll be bushwhacking through
potential predator territory at night. In addition, this cache will
require scrambling up steep rock slopes with loose footing. Please
be careful! I would not suggest bringing pets or young children as
there is a significant rock falling hazard on the slope. In
addition, you will want your hands, and possibly your back side, to
ascend and descend the slope. As such, a head lamp type flashlight
is pretty much required; you'll definitely want to have your hands
free during this leg of the trip.
There is a stream crossing near the end of the cache, and at some
times of the year it may become impossible. If attempting this
cache during the winter, I would suggest bringing tall rubber boots
or be prepared to walk through some cold water. If you cannot make
it safely, please do not attempt to. The cache container is a large
ammo can.
Expect to spend 4+ hours seeking this cache, it consists of about 5
miles round trip with 1500 feet elevation gain.
Update: People have mentioned difficulties in return navigation. You may want to log your path. There are no return flints.
