Geocache Description:

Saturday 2nd October, 10:00 am to 4:00 pm.

South East Meet-n-Greet II extends an invitation to all geocachers & friends to meet at the Woodlands Picnic Area, Cranbourne Botanical Gardens, Cranbourne so they can catch up with fellow cachers, swap tall stories and enjoy a BBQ lunch.

The Cranbourne Botanical Gardens is just off the South Gippsland Highway south of Cranbourne.

The Royal Botanic Gardens Cranbourne is one of Victoria's most precious areas of native bushland and offers nature-lovers the chance to explore 363 hectares of untouched heathlands, wetlands and woodlands. These expansive natural gardens are also home to thriving bird and animal life, including several rare endangered species.

The Woodland Picnic Area is perfect for family, friends and community groups. It has free gas barbecues, picnic tables, a huge children’s playground and large open spaces for ball games. It’s the perfect place to relax and enjoy the outdoors.

Entry to the Woodland Picnic Area is FREE! The Woodland Picnic Area can be accessed from the Australian Garden car park. (by foot or wheelchair 400m walk)
The new 4 km Bicycle Track winds its way through the beautiful bushland, grassland and wetland areas of RBG Cranbourne. Watch out for local wildlife including koalas, wallabies, echidnas and bandicoots.
This is an easy ride over graveled paths, making it perfect for cyclists of all ages and fitness levels. Bike racks are available at the Visitor Centre and Woodland Picnic Area if you want to stop for a coffee, barbecue or stroll through the Australian Garden.
Explore the untouched heathlands, wetlands and woodlands at RBG Cranbourne. There is lots of signage throughout the Gardens to point you in the right direction and provide details about the various walks. See gardens map for more information on walking tracks.
• Trig Point Lookout to Stringybark Picnic Area via Wylies Creek track - 3.7 km
• Stringybark Picnic Area to Trig Point Lookout via Possum Gully track - 1.9 km
• Visitor Centre to Trig Point Lookout - 400 m
• Trig Point Lookout to Stringybark Picnic Area - 1.5 km
• Manna Walk from Stringybark Picnic Area - 1.0 km

We also hope to have a few new caches for people to do. Due to the sensitive nature of the area excursion off the tracks and into the bushland will be limited, however there are plenty of caches to do in the nearby suburbs.
The road into the park is limited to 25 km/hr and has plenty of signs asking you to slow down for wildlife. We hope you will respect this important area and do just that.

As you will note from the description above, there is a short walk of about 430 metres along well graded paths to the Woodlands picnic area. You cannot access this area by vehicle.

We suggest you start your walk from the nearby carpark at S38.07.828, E145.16.056. If this gate is closed you can start from S38.07.838, E145.16.094.

We will supply stickers and marking pens for your names, everything else is BYO.

Now for the bad news; No dogs, no motorbikes, no horse riding, no trying to make this a driveby!
