ReFore!ndum Mystery Cache

This cache is temporarily unavailable.

Ngaambul: This cache has has had a finder recently who rather than simply accepting a DNF has placed their own container and claimed a find. This is known as a "throw down" and has become so common that it even has it's own help centre article.

A “throwdown” is a container placed by a geocacher who cannot find the original cache.

Some geocachers place throwdowns so that they can log a find on a cache that they suspect is missing. Geocaches should never be replaced without the permission of the cache owner. This can lead to multiple containers, geocacher confusion, and disputes about whether someone is entitled to log a find or not.

I'm disabling this cache so that the cache owner can perform their own maintenance on the cache in line with their requirements.

Please respond to this situation in a timely manner (i.e., within 4 weeks) to prevent the cache from being archived for non-responsiveness.

If you require more time please be sure to post a note (not an email) explaining the situation and how much more time you require. For ongoing issues please ensure you visit the listing and post a new note every 4 weeks to keep everyone up to date, if you do not then you cache may be archived without further note from a reviewer. Caches archived due to lack of maintenance are no longer unarchived and you will need to submit a replacement as a new cache.

Geocache Description:

In 1962, legislation was put in place to enable Aboriginal Australians to enrol to vote and take part in voting.

In the year ABCD a federal referendum was held to address two issues, the second of which was to alter the Constitution with regard to Aboriginal Australians.

The constitution previously stated the following two texts -

"The Parliament shall, subject to this Constitution, have power to make laws for the peace, order, and good government of the Commonwealth with respect to the people of any race, other than the aboriginal people in any State, for whom it is necessary to make special laws."

"In reckoning the numbers of the people of the Commonwealth, or of a State or other part of the Commonwealth, aboriginal natives should not be counted."

This referendum saw the highest YES vote ever recorded in a Federal referendum, with 90.77 per cent voting for change.

Non indigeous Australian women were given the right to vote in Federal elections in EFGH.

Other interesting information is that in South Australia in 1896, women were given the right to vote in SA parliamentary elections, and in 1898 all Aboriginal men and women were extended this right.
