Geocache Description:

Stars Of The Lid #1 - Broken Harbors

From the parking area, go through the footpath gate and continue up the well-used path towards the Chattri.

A walk over open downland on the outskirts of Brighton of just under 4 miles, which should take a couple of hours. There are 6 micro caches containing clues for the the larger bonus cache.

You will walk past The Chattri, a memorial to the Indian soldiers who gave their lives in service to the King during the Great War, where there is a another cache ( GCMA6X The Chattri ). It is well worth a visit even if you have found the cache previously.

The outward leg of the walk is along the Sussex Border Path, between East and West Sussex, where the route is obvious. The return trip is via a much less frequented footpath where the correct route is not always obvious. At the top of each cache description there will be some guidance as necessary, and you are recommended to read them.

Stars Of The Lid are a 2 piece band originating from Austin, Texas, who produce what can loosely be described as 'ambient minimal drone' music of a style similar to composers such as Arvo Part and Henryk Górecki. The series is named after them as a result of my listening to their last 2 works 'The Tired Sounds Of...' and '... And Their Refinement Of The Decline' while laying out the trail.

I find this music a beautiful accompaniment to a solo walk through pastoral countryside, demanding attention but not imposing itself or any specific mood upon the listener. The sound of sheep and birds from the environment is seamlessly incorporated into the calming tones that serve to enhance the appreciation of your surroundings, and induce a wonderful sense of well-being.

I encourage you to listen to either of these 2 works in an appropriate mood. You may not like it, but on the other hand you may find a whole sphere of music that you were previously never aware of.
