FLORIDA SPIRIT QUEST
#006
"IRON MIKE"
"SPIRIT OF THE
AMERICAN DOUGHBOY"I remember seeing the
Doughboy in my youth every time we drove over the Causeway, do you?
It's not so prominent now, , in it's new location, with everything
so built up and the approach to the causeway looking like something
out of Star Trek.
The Spirit of the American Doughboy is a pressed copper
sculpture by E. M. Viquesney, designed to honor the veterans
and casualties of World War I. Several Hundred were produced during
the 1920s and 30s for communities throughout the United States;
Ours was dedicated in 1927.
The statue depicts a doughboy walking through shattered tree
stumps strung with barbed wire, his rifle in his left hand and his
right hand held high above his head, clutching a hand grenade. The
Smithsonian American Art Museum currently lists 159 locations. Of
that number, 134 currently existing originals have been
independently authenticated. .
The cache container is A SMALL PILL
BOTTLE BYOP. As always, please be respectful, and cache in,
trash out. PARKING IS CLOSE BY
