There is an unusual story about this place. When
the Swedish troops crossed Vilce river, they saw Sheremetyev troops
approaching. They have thrown all the stolen gold as well as
king’s crown into the Devils depth. Perhaps Devils depth is
still today storing the gold.
You will not have to search for the treasures in
the devils depth, but you will have to do it under one of three
boulder arc bridges. All 3 bridges together make a 114 meters long
bridge complex, which survived also tank crossings in
1941.-1945.
In the northern part of the Vilce nature park
since 1935 is a monument for Swedish soldiers. It is a culturally
significant object - Murmuizas battle site, where 7000 soldiers
large Swedish army defeated 20 000 soldiers of Russian troops
leaded by Sheremetyev. Below the Murmuiza on a Svete river is a
cemetery of Swedish soldiers, where is an impressive monument as
well.
